Development Officer – Elementary Education (Early Childhood Education)

Sir Ratan Tata Trust is one of the oldest Indian grant making  foundations and today, continues to pursue the goal of being a  professionally managed philanthropic organisation. Through its grant  making, the Trust supports efforts for the development of society, in  areas of Rural Livelihoods & Communities, Education, Health, Civil  Society & Governance and Arts & Culture.

The Trust is looking for a suitable professional to consolidate and  expand its Elementary Education portfolio, as it is increasingly  geared up to identify new sector building opportunities. Grants within  the ‘Early Childhood Education' fall under the sub-theme, 'Reforming  Elementary Education’ which focuses on supporting quality  interventions that address critical and established gaps within  elementary education. The thrust is on supporting projects in the  field that address issues of quality of education through partnership  with the government and the community. Early Childhood Education is a  new, emerging area of focus for the Trust as part of Trust’s larger  focus on systemic reform in elementary education. Development Officer - Elementary Education (Early Childhood Education)

S/he will assist senior programme staff in developing and supporting  the Trust’s Elementary Education portfolio focusing on ‘Early  Childhood Education’ (ECE) as specialization and independently  handling the theme in due course. The job will entail working, both  independently and as part of the team (Education and Health), to  develop and enhance the Trust's engagement in ECE in select states  through developing, monitoring and managing grants and closely  engaging with key developments in the field of ECE at the state and  national level. It would also entail supporting other functions /  components of elementary education portfolio Candidates should: (i)  possess a Master’s degree in ECE / Elementary Education / Child  Development / Human Development / suitable discipline; (ii) have a  minimum of five years experience in designing and implementing  interventions for enhancing quality elementary education with focus on  Early Childhood Education; (iii) have the zeal to excel, the ability  to innovate future strategies and deliver, in a challenging  environment with deadline oriented outputs; and (iv) be willing to  undertake extensive travel. Candidates with a demonstrated engagement  with ECE through field level experience / teacher training /  curriculum development and or research and good understanding of  Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) would have an added  advantage.

The job requires skills in communication, writing and management,  besides interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a wide  range of people, including fellow professionals. Ideally, s/he should  be growth oriented and hard working, have a mature outlook, with a  visible interest in, and commitment to, education / development  sector. Language proficiency in English and a working knowledge of  Hindi is a must. Knowledge of either Marathi or Kannada would be an  added advantage. Skills in word processing, spreadsheet and database  management are also essential. This is a full time position based in  Delhi / Mumbai / Bangalore, involving frequent traveling. The  remuneration shall be commensurate with the applicants’ ability and  experience.
